INVESTMENTS

Wealth and Legacy™ Group provides both investment advice and discretionary investment management to private clients. As an authorised Category II financial services provider, we can construct and manage investment portfolios in accordance with an agreed investment mandate, while also assisting clients who prefer to retain responsibility for individual investment decisions.

Our approach is not limited to a particular investment platform or product provider. We consider the appropriate investment structure, asset allocation and underlying investments according to each client’s objectives, risk profile, investment horizon, liquidity requirements and broader financial circumstances.

Our investment solutions can include:

  • Segregated portfolios – individually managed portfolios providing direct exposure to JSE-listed shares and other listed instruments within our authorised scope. This enables us to construct portfolios around the particular objectives and circumstances of the client rather than placing all investors into a pooled solution.
  • Unit trusts and collective investment schemes – access to a broad range of local and international funds across different asset classes, investment styles and strategies.
  • Offshore investments – access to international investment opportunities where appropriate, allowing portfolios to diversify beyond South African assets and currencies.
  • Cash and income solutions – investments designed to meet liquidity, capital preservation and income requirements as part of a broader portfolio.
  • Other suitable investment structures – where appropriate to the client’s objectives, ownership arrangements and broader financial plan.

Investment advice

Some clients prefer to remain actively involved in investment decisions. In these circumstances, Wealth and Legacy™ Group can provide investment advice and recommendations while the client retains responsibility for approving the implementation of those recommendations.

Discretionary investment management

Under a discretionary investment mandate, Wealth and Legacy™ Group is authorised to make investment decisions and implement portfolio changes on the client’s behalf within the parameters agreed with the client.

The investment mandate sets out the portfolio’s objectives, risk parameters, permitted investments and any specific restrictions. This allows us to manage the portfolio on an ongoing basis as market conditions, valuations and the client’s circumstances change, without requiring approval for every individual transaction.

How we construct portfolios

Investment portfolios are constructed according to the circumstances and objectives of each client. Depending on the mandate, we consider factors including:

  • Investment objectives and required returns;
  • Risk capacity and risk tolerance;
  • Investment horizon;
  • Income and liquidity requirements;
  • Existing investments and concentrated exposures;
  • Local and offshore diversification;
  • Tax considerations;
  • Ownership structures; and
  • Estate planning and other broader financial considerations.

The appropriate portfolio may therefore combine direct securities, collective investment schemes, offshore investments, cash and other suitable investment instruments rather than relying on a single product or investment approach.

Investment management within the broader Wealth and Legacy Plan®

Investment decisions should not be considered in isolation. Where appropriate, a client’s investment strategy forms part of their broader Wealth and Legacy Plan®, allowing the investment portfolio to be considered alongside retirement planning, tax, estate planning, risk protection, trusts and other financial arrangements.

This integrated approach helps ensure that the investment strategy is aligned not only with investment returns, but also with the purpose for which the wealth is ultimately being accumulated, preserved or transferred.

Implementation and custody

Depending on the investment solution, portfolios may be implemented through appropriate regulated investment platforms, custodians and product providers. These arrangements provide the infrastructure through which investments are held and administered, while Wealth and Legacy™ Group remains focused on the investment advice, portfolio construction and investment management provided to the client.
