There is no standard price for making a will in South Africa. Drafting may be offered at no separate charge under a free campaign or broader service, or charged as a professional service according to the complexity of the advice and document required.

A will does not have to be registered with a court or government body during the testator’s lifetime, so there is no government will registration fee simply for making one. The original should instead be stored safely so that it can be produced after death.

Estate administration costs after death are separate from the cost of drafting the will. An executor may be entitled to remuneration fixed by the will or, where applicable, under the prescribed tariff in the Administration of Estates framework. Those tariffs and other prescribed charges can change and should be checked against the Master’s current guidance.
